Why did Salim Javed’s friendship break?
In the new docu-series Angry Young Men, Javed Akhtar has revealed the real reason behind the break-up of his friendship with Salim Khan. Legendary screenwriter Salim revealed that Javed reached out to him and told him about his decision to move on from the partnership. Javed has now revealed that he could see ‘fatigue’ in his work and they decided it was time for them to go their separate ways.
Javed Akhtar said, “When you start working together, you are new in the business, you don’t know many people. You keep each other’s company. Probably 18 hours out of 24 hours we were together. Then I made new friends and he made new friends, slowly our circles started separating. Our evening meetings stopped, that was also a reason but it was not a big reason. According to me the main reason for this was that the spring of our career was drying up. Fatigue was also showing in our work. There is no doubt about it.”
Why did Salim-Javed never talk about breaking up their friendship?
He further added, “Yes, we broke up but we did it in a very civilised manner, usually what happens when people break up is they throw mud at each other and say bad things. We argued sometimes, we are not perfect but nobody is. I will give my side of the story, he will give his. So we never talked about the breakup. Even when people asked us why or how it happened, we said we don’t know, we don’t like to talk about it. We only talk about our good times.”
In the second part of the series, Salman Khan revealed that after the decision to separate, Salim Khan had come home and was ‘upset’ about it. On the other hand, Javed’s first wife Honey Irani told that Javed had asked her not to ask questions about the separation with Salim Khan.
Out of 24 films of Salim-Javed, 22 were blockbusters
Let us tell you that Salim-Javed worked together in 24 films, out of which 22 were blockbusters. Their biggest hits include Sholay, Don and Zanjeer. They separated in the early 1980s.
